Following this, he pursued a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. His expertise encompasses modern treatment approaches for sports-related injuries, including those affecting the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee, as well as shoulder replacement. During his time in Chicago, he served as assistant team physician to prominent sports teams such as the Northwestern football team, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Blackhawks. Dr. Gombera joined Texas Orthopedic Hospital and Fondren Orthopedic Group in 2015.
At Texas Orthopedic Hospital, Dr. Gombera serves as the Director of the Hip Preservation Center, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to address hip pain in patients. He remains actively involved in advancing medical knowledge through contributions to literature on shoulder, hip, and knee injury treatments.
Dr. Gombera is affiliated with esteemed organizations such as the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is dedicated to education, mentoring trainees and fellow surgeons at Texas Orthopedic Hospital and various courses nationwide. Additionally, he holds an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at UTMB and serves as a team physician for Texas Southern University.
