Dr. David A. Hector Named a 2026 TX Top Doc for Excellence in Cardiology
David A. Hector, MD, FACP, FACC, FSCAI, FAAC has been reviewed and approved by TX Top Docs for 2026. With more than three decades of experience in cardiovascular medicine, Dr. Hector has built a career defined by advanced training, technical expertise, and a genuine commitment to helping patients receive the highest level of cardiac care close to home. As a board-certified cardiologist, he has remained at the forefront of interventional cardiology while maintaining a patient-centered approach to treatment.
Dr. Hector earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati before completing his internship and residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He went on to pursue specialized fellowship training in both Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he gained extensive experience in complex catheter-based procedures and advanced cardiovascular care.
In 1986, Dr. Hector made the move to East Texas, attracted not only by the warmer climate but also by an opportunity to join the faculty at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. His career in the region continued to grow, and in 1998, he joined Tyler Cardiovascular Consultants. Over the years, he has become an important part of the advancement of cardiac care throughout East Texas.
Looking back on his career and the changes he has witnessed in medicine, Dr. Hector notes, “Medical care has improved dramatically, and to be a part of that new culture and advanced medical care for East Texas is one of the great pleasures of my life.”
Much of Dr. Hector’s work has focused on cardiac catheterization and minimally invasive approaches to treating structural heart disorders. Known for his precision and technical skill, he has helped countless patients receive effective treatment while minimizing the risks and recovery associated with more invasive procedures. For him, advances in technology are most meaningful when they translate into better experiences and outcomes for the people he treats.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Hector remains engaged with the broader medical community through membership in several respected professional organizations, including the American Academy of Cardiology, American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians, American Heart Association, and American Society of Echocardiography, among others.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hector has witnessed remarkable changes in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. Yet his focus has remained consistent: providing knowledgeable, thoughtful care and making sure patients in East Texas have access to modern cardiovascular treatments.
