Dr. Lakshman currently serves as Medical Director of the Rectal Cancer Program at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and is an active member of the Cancer Governance Board for St. David’s Healthcare. His leadership roles reflect both his clinical excellence and his commitment to improving cancer care at a systems level.
A pioneer in robotic surgery, Dr. Lakshman has been utilizing minimally invasive, robotic-assisted techniques since 2011. Notably, he performed the world’s first procedure using the Da Vinci Xi surgical system. With more than 1,500 colorectal robotic surgeries completed, the highest volume in the region, he brings an unmatched level of experience and precision to every procedure.
Dr. Lakshman is deeply committed to combining advanced technology with personalized, collaborative care, ensuring that each patient feels informed, supported, and confident throughout their treatment journey.
Dr. Lakshman earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky and completed his general surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He went on to complete a specialized fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Lakshman enjoys staying active through tennis and basketball and spending time with his family exploring the arts in and around Austin.
