Dr. Barstow earned his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University, where he conducted research in Neuroscience and Bioremediation of contaminated soil. During his time at Texas A&M, he helped establish the now-beloved “Replant” tree-planting tradition, and served in the Texas A&M Student Government Association as Chairman of the Environmental Issues Committee, demonstrating early leadership and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Barstow earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, and went on to pursue a clinical fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology as well as a research fellowship in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. After relocating to Austin, Dr. Barstow continued his passion for discovery as an investigator in multiple allergy clinical research trials, contributing to the development of new therapies for allergy and asthma sufferers. His work at the forefront of clinical research has helped bring innovative treatments from the laboratory to the patients who need them most.
Dr. Barstow is an active member of several leading professional organizations, including the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, where he has served on the Indoor Environment, Aerobiology, and Basic and Clinical Immunology Committees. He is also a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the Travis County Medical Society, the Texas Allergy and Immunology Society, and the American Thoracic Society.
Throughout his career, Dr. Barstow has contributed his expertise to several advisory and leadership roles, including service on the Central Texas Board of the American Diabetes Association and the Louisiana Health Care Review Clinical Advisory Board.
