Dr. Husein Poonawala is the founder and director of The Vein Clinic of Dallas, a leading center specializing in vein care. A Harvard-trained Vascular and Interventional Radiologist, Dr. Poonawala is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and holds diplomate status with the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine. His career reflects a unique blend of technical expertise, dedication, and a passion for helping others.

Originally drawn to aerospace engineering, Dr. Poonawala earned a degree with honors in the field from Purdue University. However, his desire to make a direct impact on people’s lives led him to pivot to medicine. After enrolling in medical school, he quickly distinguished himself, graduating at the top of his class.

During medical school, Dr. Poonawala discovered his passion for Vascular and Interventional Radiology, a specialty that combines advanced imaging with minimally invasive techniques. Inspired by the potential of cutting-edge procedures to transform patient care, he pursued this field and completed his Radiology residency at LSU Health Shreveport, where his exceptional performance earned him a coveted spot in the prestigious Harvard Vascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. There, he honed his skills under the mentorship of renowned leaders and innovators in the field.

After completing his fellowship, Dr. Poonawala returned to Louisiana, where he served as a managing partner and Vascular & Interventional Radiologist at a prominent private practice. It was there that he founded a comprehensive vein care service, introducing the latest treatments for varicose veins and earning a reputation as a trusted expert in the field. His innovative approach to vein care and patient-centered treatment plans helped countless individuals regain their health and confidence.

With extensive experience in ultrasound-guided procedures and advanced venous treatments, Dr. Poonawala has performed thousands of minimally invasive procedures, mastering techniques that allow him to address complex vein issues with precision. Realizing his passion for vein care, he made the decision to focus exclusively on medical and cosmetic vein treatments, founding The Vein Clinic of Dallas to offer state-of-the-art care in a compassionate, detail-oriented environment.
