Dr. Kafrouni is a dedicated gastrointestinal specialist known not only for his clinical expertise but for his deep commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care. “Practicing evidence-based medicine is what we are taught to do, but it is not enough,” he explains. “I believe that compassion and availability to my patients are essential parts of my mission as a gastrointestinal specialist.”

His clinical philosophy reflects a balance of scientific rigor and human connection. Dr. Kafrouni is especially drawn to the complexity and variety of GI disorders, noting that, “Patients with GI problems are not always ‘textbook’ cases, which requires us to work harder to connect the dots and to solve their problems.” This intellectual challenge, combined with a genuine desire to help, drives him to provide the highest level of care. “The things that remain constant are, to my mind, spending the time it takes to do things right and being sympathetic to and concerned about each individual in my care.”

Dr. Kafrouni completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, after his residency and internship at Good Samaritan Hospital. He also conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He holds both an MD and a BS in Biology from the American University of Beirut. A respected leader in his field, Dr. Kafrouni served as Co-Director of the Esophageal Disease Center at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, where he also held leadership roles including Chief of the Endoscopy Committee and member of the Medical Executive Committee.

He is an active member of several professional societies, including the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American College of Gastroenterology.
