About Corinna Keenmon, M.D.

Corinna Keenmon, MD, FAPA, a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry. Located in the Smith Tower of Houston Methodist Hospital within the Texas Medical Center (TMC), our office provides both in-person and virtual psychiatric services for adults of all ages.

With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Keenmon has a proven track record in treating challenging mental health conditions. Dr. Keenmon specializes in addressing the unique mental health needs of older adults and individuals with medical complexities. She completed a Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at UCLA and is Board-Certified in Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.

Dr. Keenmon was born and raised in the Texas panhandle and attended Plainview High School. She completed her undergraduate degree at The University of Texas at Austin, graduated with high honors and accepted to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Dr. Keenmon earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She was awarded the American Medical Women’s Association Glasgow-Rubin Achievement Citation and the William C. Levin Scholarship for Academic Excellence. She completed psychiatry residency at Baylor College of Medicine in The Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She completed training experiences at Houston Methodist Hospital, The Menninger Clinic, Ben Taub Hospital, Baylor Psychiatry Clinic, and Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She earned the Geriatric Mental Health Foundation Scholar Award as a psychiatry resident.

Dr. Keenmon helped train the next generation of doctors and psychiatrists as assistant professors at both Baylor College of Medicine and Texas A&M School of Medicine. She won outstanding clinical educator awards in 2017 and 2021.

After residency, Dr. Keenmon completed a 2-year Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship program at The University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). As part of fellowship training, she was awarded a 1-year post-doctoral scholarship with the Bureau of Health Professions in Geriatrics. Dr. Keenmon is board-certified in Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

After fellowship training at UCLA, Dr. Keenmon returned to the Houston area. She gained additional experience as a staff psychiatrist at UT Health Harris County Psychiatric Center, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Houston Methodist Hospital.

From 2016 to 2022, Dr. Corinna Keenmon held a leadership position as Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry at Houston Methodist Hospital. In addition, she served as Medical Director of Telepsychiatry for the Houston Methodist Hospital System in the newly-developed Virtual Medicine Department from 2021 to 2022. In 2020, Dr. Keenmon was named “Houston Methodist Hospital Physician Nurse Champion” of the year for her support of nursing staff during the global pandemic.

While at Houston Methodist Hospital, Dr. Keenmon started an outpatient Sports Psychiatry consultation clinic to provide mental health services to elite athletes and team personnel. She is a preferred consultant to professional sports teams in Houston and is proud to be Team Psychiatrist for the Houston Texans.

Dr. Keenmon has a special interest in Geriatric Psychiatry. She serves on the Advisory Council for Amazing Place, a day program for adults living with mild-to-moderate dementia. In addition, Dr. Keenmon has a special interest in the treatment of athletes and members of elite sports teams.

    • At your first visit, I conduct a thorough psychiatric assessment, a process that remains dynamic throughout our journey together. By the end of this initial appointment, I’ve gained valuable insights into your unique self, laying the foundation for a personalized treatment plan.
    • This plan encompasses lifestyle recommendations, medical and lab tests, medications, and psychotherapy—a comprehensive strategy crafted specifically for you.
  • Medication management visits with psychotherapy and/or lifestyle coaching
    • At your follow-up appointments, I strive to enhance your well-being through a comprehensive approach that includes medicine management, education, psychotherapy, and resources for family and caregiver support.
    • A note on Controlled Substance Prescriptions- While non-addictive medications prove effective for most conditions, there are instances where the use of controlled substances can be beneficial. I conduct thorough screening for substance and alcohol use disorders, meticulously review prescription history, and, in certain cases, may require drug testing to ensure the safest and most effective care for you.
  • Medication Management Visits
    • `These sessions are designed to fine-tune the path towards achieving your goals.  We’ll focus on maximizing the safety and effectiveness of your medicine regimen, taking into account your unique needs and preferences.  I’ll ensure coordinated care with your other medical and mental health care providers.
  • Family Education and Support Sessions
    • At your request (and with your consent) I provide your loved ones and caregivers information they need to support you.  These sessions can occur in person, virtually, or by phone.
  • Cognitive Screening
    • I use validated tools to check for problems in brain functions, including memory, language, attention, and problem-solving.  
  • Pharmacogenomic testing
    • I test for genetic factors that impact your response to medicine to maximize the benefits of the medicine and lessen the chance of side effects.
